‘Without God, everything is permitted’ Dostoevsky

This is the beginning of a new series on difficult issues.

Australia is currently embroiled in an often bitter debate about marriage. The debate extends into other areas of what we sometimes call morality. But where does morality come from, who decides what is good or evil,  right or wrong? Throughout history many have tried to find an alternative to God or a supreme being who has the right to decide but their options have been found wanting.

Currently the basis for moral decisions seems to be ‘whatever makes me happy’. But what does the Bible say? Are our moral choices determined by what brings happiness or are there moral absolutes which we must submit to?
