Immediately

Whenever I read the Gospel of Mark I am struck by the number of times he uses the word ‘immediately’. About 40 times in 16 chapters. It adds pace and a sense of action to the account of the life of Jesus. Like many of the original words in the Bible, when they are translated they can lose some of their fullness, that’s true with ‘immediately’.

It means straightaway or directly as well as expressing a sense of urgency. This adds a sense of purpose. Whenever it is used, and it usually refers either to Jesus or something he did it conveys the idea that Jesus knew what he was doing and he was going to do it straightaway, without delay or distraction.

Are you clear in what you want to accomplish or begin this year, have you set your direction, charted your course and ready to go full steam ahead? Or are you going to wait around and allow others to decide for you? It’s your choice – decide to live on purpose in 2017!
