As Nehemiah guided the people of Israel to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem he was careful to get people to build in front of their own house. Self-interest is a powerful motivator.
On Sunday we are going to share in the dedication of two children and their parents. This is part of their commitment to the task of building a wall, not just in front but around their house. Parenting is a rewarding but challenging experience, we are bringing children into an uncertain world that is full of dangers, and often we feel totally unprepared and ill equipped for the task.
We need good walls of protection. Like those of Nehemiah’s day we are better motivated to build when we have a personal stake in what is being protected and what is more valuable than our children? How then can we be sure to build good walls? Come on Sunday to find out.
